Weinsteins Push Piranha 3D Back At Least Four Months

Just one day after being treated to some truly splatterific photos from Piranha 3D, fans looking forward to the remake got the rug pulled out from under them as The Weinstein Co. announced it’s moving the film’s release date from April 16 to sometime in August … at the earliest.

The sad news came from the LA Times, but you can’t really fault the Weinsteins for relocating “Piranha 3-D,” one of its more highly anticipated releases, to get out of the way of Lionsgate’s movie “Kick-Ass,” which also opens that weekend and may appeal to the same young demographics.

Despite TWC’s recent box office disappointments, David Glaser, a senior Weinstein Co. executive, said there were no financial motivations behind the decision to move “Piranha 3-D.”

Thanks to Joey M. for the heads-up.
