New Splice Clip Explores Creationism

With Vincenzo Natali’s monster opus Splice gearing up for its debut at Sundance, a new clip has surfaced showing off exactly how one goes about creating terror out of nothing at all.

The flick, starring Adrien Brody, Sarah Polley, Delphine Chaneac, David Hewlett, and Brandon McGibbon, tells the tale of Elsa and Clive, two young rebellious scientists who defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Named Dren, the creature rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into a beautiful but dangerous winged human-chimera, who forges a bond with both of her creators – only to have that bond turn deadly.

Check out the clip below courtesy of STYD, and look for more on Splice soon!

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never, ever choose to be.

  • Mr. Freeze

So the author of this “article” has declared himself a piece of shit.

Your post goes out to “our readers”

You actually get views on this crappy site?

    • Sirand

“You actually get views on this crappy site?”

Well, clearly you’re one of them.

  • Cash Bailey

Wow! Murph is in fine form. Highly entertaining, I have to say.

I miss his tantrums over at AICN. I guess now that Drew McWeeny is no longer there he has to go looking for other targets.

    • Terminal

Thank you! I thought I was the only one enjoying the display.

  • Uncle Creepy

To our readers … We’re sorry you guys are being subjected to Mr. Murphy’s rantings. Yes. It is him. He really is a Hollywood producer, and yes, he is behaving like that. I ask you all please … no matter how many names he calls us all, do us a HUGE favor. Don’t respond to him. You’re just fanning his flames and he seems to love the needless drama.

Here at Dread Central our mission has always been the same … help filmmakers to get the word out there about their projects. We’ve been successful and have helped many and that’s all we want to do. That’s our agenda. We’ll continue to cover Splice and any other movie that comes our way despite who’s working on it.

I ask you to please not let Mr. Murphy’s bravado sour you on Splice. A lot of hard work goes into making movies from a lot of different people. You can’t judge all of them and the work itself because of just one person’s actions.

Thanks and I apologize for this mess.

    • Don Murphy

      AUNT CREEPY BUSTS A MOVE

Having just hung up with the director, writer and producer and urged them not to reply to the sheer load of shit spewed by Creepy, it is hilarious that after attacking my film because of personal animus to me he now tries to act all innocent.

    • Terminal

You ARE going to give him his own column though, right? I’d read it every day, quite honestly.

    • Floydian Trip

The Needle and the Damage Done.

    • Ultimo Franco

Hmmmm. Does this mean that I shouldn’t have just sent links to each of these recent Splice stories to Nikki Finke, Defamer, and a bunch of other sites? Sorry. My bad. ;)

  • Jon Condit

    Wow. Just wow.

    • Emy

      Seeing where this has gone…

      Agreed.

  • Floydian Trip

Why would someone want to pretend to be a producer of all things?

    • Terminal

      To get laid?

      • Floydian Trip

Do producers even get laid? I always figured sexual frustration was one of their problems.

        • Terminal

Speaking as someone who produced a movie once, I can confirm that. :-P

  • Terminal

Whatever attention this exchange is trying to bring to the movie, it’s working.

    • Don Murphy

why would anyone want attention from this site? Movie is getting plenty already, thank you.

      • Terminal

You must be a blast at press junkets.

Reporter: So what inspired you to make this movie?
Don: Of course you’d stoop to such an obvious dumb ass question, eat shit and die you philistine!

No but I kid, you’re good people.

        • Don Murphy

          I’m pretty good.
Surely you don’t call this dump press?

          • Terminal

No opinion. There are ALWAYS two sides to every story.

          • The Woman In Black

Or three — one, the other, and the truth.

I’d love to know what we did to Mr. Murphy to anger him so much aside from writing a not so flattering review of one of the films he’s produced.

          • Don Murphy

You can ask Aunt Creepy and BoyFoy about 2004. And then this Heather UglyChick writes an interview with a liar and claims she tried to contact the other side and did not. And that other retard who purposely attacked one of my films last December. Trust me word gets around and I am good at spreading it. No first hand information for you if I can help it. And I can.

Stay tuned for legal letter demanding takedown of copyrighted fotos.

          • Terminal

Is the movie good? That’s what I want to know, because I’ll watch anything with Sarah Polley.

          • Emy

I am hoping it is good.

I too love Sarah Polley and nothing by Natali has been bad so far (Cypher might have been his weakest, but it was still good).

          • Don Murphy

film is great bit we don’t want your $2.00. Besides you need it for acne cream.

          • Floydian Trip

Wow. You made a movie and don’t want to make money. Is that why the genre is as bad as it is today?

          • Don Murphy

            Floydian Trip’s Money’s Turds!

Who would want your money? That was in your pants?

          • Floydian Trip

Ha, OK, come on now, who are you really? Part of me would believe that someone like you could actually be an executive producer but the logical side of me is screaming that it can’t be. If you really are who you say you are then you have inspired me. I’m going to pack up and move to LA to become a producer. It must be an easy job. Why am I toiling away in one of the most technically advanced occupations out there when I could do what you do without much thought or effort. Think of all the time I’d have to spend on the beach.

          • Don Murphy

            Go look in a mirror
Do you want to see THAT on the beach?

          • Floydian Trip

To be honest with you, no, I wouldn’t want to see me on a beach. I like women.

          • Don Murphy

Yes but they don’t like you. Sorry

          • Floydian Trip

This was fun for a second but now it’s just boring. If UC says you are actually this anonymous producer guy, which I’m sure is part of your problem, then I’ll take his word for it. It’s kind of disheartening to think that there are more people out there just like you. You can rest assured knowing that this movie will get as little money out of me as possible. I can wait for it to become a free rental.

          • Don Murphy

au contrarire I have arranged so that you personally shall never be able to see the film even for free!

          • Floydian Trip

And that really wouldn’t concern me very much. Doh! Sorry Creepy.

          • Terminal

I haven’t seen anything from Natali, but I really enjoy Sarah Polley’s films. She can pull off almost any performance and make it pop. She was a real highlight in “Dawn of the Dead.”

Have you ever seen “The Weight of Water”? She was really powerful in that movie.

          • Emy

I believe I have but am not entirely sure (seen so many moes that eventually, they kinda blur together…).

Have you seen her in My Life Without Me? Fantastic performance (surrounded by more fantastic performances).

          • Terminal

Oh yes. “My Life Without Me” is really damn good. I thought it was all a pretty realistic depiction of what someone’s final wishes would entail. I hear she’s a good director, too.

          • Emy

I hear that too. Her movie “Away from Her” is somewhere on my Netflix queue. I should check if it is available for instant download.

          • Terminal

I try to watch anything with Polley in it. Admittedly she’s made some crap, but she’s too classy to write off. You have to admire how she’s avoided being swallowed up by Hollywood and stuck to staying obscure only to re-emerge to be in projects that lend some merit to her filmography. “Dawn” was obviously a money project, but she outshined everyone just the same.

          • Emy

Actually, I heard her say in interviews that she always wanted to kill zombies in a movie. Whether that was for the movie’s publicity only or the truth, only she knows.

          • Terminal

I stand corrected, then. She’d make a good action hero if she ever decided to star in one. I could just see her in Luc Besson’s next action movie. Heh.

          • Emy

            That would be great!

She is very talented and I love everything Besson has directed and most (like 95%) of what he has written.

That would be an awesome pairing. It would need a Gary Oldman baddy too.

          • Floydian Trip

I would be surprised if it was if this guy is an indication of the kind of people that were involved with it. I had never heard of it before until I read about it on DC and it’s not on my list of movies I want to rent when it gets released. That is unless the folks here give it a good review then it might just get my $2.

          • Terminal

No, no, no, call him the Foyblunder, then twirl your mustache and cry “Muahahahaha!”

          • Terminal

“Or three — one, the other, and the truth.”

The truth is a subjective thing.

Just kidding, I’m sorry but Don is fun.

  • Emy

Classy comments from an exec. producer…

Happy I don’t work in Hollywood.

    • Don Murphy

      so are we

      • Emy

I just checked IMDB and it looks like you don’t even have credit on Splice…

        http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1017460/fullcredits#cast

Make of that what you will…

        • Don Murphy

It means that IMDB is inaccurate and stands for Internet Movie Douchebags. Which is probably why you checked it.

How about a rave review from Variety which is accurate all the time? http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117941994.html?categoryId=31&cs=1

Do I have a credit now? What was your point? Mine was that this site is pathetic. Why are you even here if you are so super cool?

          • Emy

I just love being called names… Esp. indirectly…

Ok, you’re a producer, so what? Don’t you have more important things to do then post on here?

You think we’re pathetic, yet you post on here…

            Qui se ressemble, s’assemble…

  • Don Murphy

Figures that you would have to stoop to linking to another site…because you can sure as shit count on the fact that you’ll never have direct access to anything this good.

    Don Murphy, Executive Producer, SPLICE

    • frank_dracman

Wow. Don Murphy sure is an ungrateful prick, eh? Coverage is coverage, man.

Edit- Scratch that. He’s not even listed in the credits. Just another loony on the loose.

      • Don Murphy

Learn to read before you open your vapid mouth. I am credited. I was key to this movie happening at all.
And coverage at this site is worse than no coverage at all.
Grateful? For what these people have done to me over the years? I’ll be grateful when Aunt Creepy is finally staked and buried.

        • Uncle Creepy

For clarification’s sake here’s what we’ve “Done to Him” …
Years ago Don brought some really silly flame war from another site here to our forums. I dont even remember what it was about. Since we have enough problems dealing with in house stuff I asked everyone to stop. Cue the instant violation of free speech thing followed by a tirade of Murphy calling me Aunt Creepy, Fat, making fun of my clothing, posting pics of me elsewhere, you name it. I didn’t respond as 1- I am fat, 2- I have a tendency to wear silly clothing and 3- if I were an Aunt masturbation would be a lot more fun. Eventually everything died down.

A couple of years later after months of slander on Murphy’s part Anchor Bay came to us with While She Was Out. This was the first time I was to have contact with Don for years and now it would be direct. I could have said no. I could have refused. Hell I could have done it and went on a tirade of my own, but instead I did the interview and just let bygones be bygone. Why? Because drama is silly and I just don’t have the energy. You all can listen to the interview right here:

          http://www.dreadcentral.com/interviews/montford-susan-murphy-don-while-she-was-out

When the movie finally came out it, it just wasn’t good. So we gave it a bad review. It wasn’t even me that wrote it. Of course Don took offense as he seems to take everything personally. I guess it didn’t help that the film’s director who showed promise was his then girlfriend or wife or something.

So there you have it. To my knowledge that’s what we did to him. That’s why we’re scummy. Etc. This is the first and only time I’m going to address this situation publicly as it’s akin to feeding a Gremlin after midnight. Make of all this what you will but holy Christ is it stupid.

          • Terminal

            But fun.

          • Don Murphy

            Aunt Creepy Spins Facts
And spins on his thumbs. You and I both know what you have done Auntie, and your lies are astounding. You attacked that film because I did it. I just didn’t remember that it was your shitty site I was doing the interview for. I would have blocked Anchor Bay. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE ACCESS TO ANYTHING I DO IF I CAN HELP IT AND I DO A LOT AND CAN HELP A LOT. Even now, you have Heather Uglychick printing an interview from a liar and she lies and says she tried to contact people.

I suddenly remember why I didn’t recognize the name DreanCentral.ass- weren’t you going to do the Horror Channel back then or some shit? I guess that didn’t work out so well, liar.

          • Don Murphy

Aunt Creepy Your Losers Want The Truth

I just learned from the production that you illegally posted fotos six months ago that we had you take down. Isn’t that really the reason for the stupid attacks?

            Tell the truth!

          • Uncle Creepy

Don, no one is attacking you. You’re the one calling everyone names and inciting all this hostility for absolutely no reason at all like you always do.

As for pulling images six months ago? I don’t remember if we did or we didn’t. Know what? Because it was six months ago and this flick isn’t exactly at the top of my most important properties to report on list. And even if that did happen such situations are common place on the Internet. People are asked to remove things all the time. It never results in hard feelings. We’ve done NOTHING but report positive stuff on this film for the last year. Anyone who goes through our Splice database can see that.

            http://www.dreadcentral.com/splice

Honestly I didn’t even know you were involved with this until you started your rantings and that’s the truth.

          • Don Murphy

            Aunt Creepy, Pathetic Liar

Let me look at this impartially. Okay?

In the past 24 hours you ran an article from a liar and your writer lied and said they tried to contact someone. You ran a piece about distribution that was a lie. Your explanations are a lie.

So being an Auntie, being fat, dressing bad and being stupid- none of those compare to being a LIAR!

    • Sirand

Don’t you have an Alan Moore book to rape?

      • Don Murphy

Sirand the moronic 5 year old
did you think of that comment all by yourself?

  • Caterpillar

I hope that the rumors of behind the scenes trouble between Natali and the producers are unfounded bullshit and that we’ll get to see his cut of the film. I guess a successful screening at Sundance would help these matters.

    • Don Murphy

what an absurd comment to make- there are no rumors you just made that up. Link to these rumors or STFU and drop dead, okay? Thanks
