Badass House of the Devil Collectible VHS

One of our favorite flicks of last year, Ti West’s retro thriller The House of the Devil, is finally coming home to DVD and Blu-ray on February 2, 2010, and to celebrate its release, one hell of a cool promo item has been sent out to us lucky bastards!

Behold the vintage House of the Devil VHS tape complete with awkward over-sized clam-shell casing! It truly is a thing of absolute beauty, is it not? This perfectly celebrates the film’s unbelievably authentic Eighties feel! Order your copy below!

Sam (Donahue) is a pretty college sophomore, so desperate to earn some cash for a deposit on an apartment that she accepts a babysitting job even after she finds out there is no baby. Mr. and Mrs. Ulman (Noonan and Woronov) are the older couple who lure Sam out to their creaky Victorian mansion deep in the woods, just in time for a total lunar eclipse. Megan (Gerwig) is Sam’s best friend, who gives her a ride out to the house and reluctantly leaves her there despite suspecting that something is amiss. Victor (Bowen) at first seems like just a creepy guy lurking around the house but quickly makes it clear that Sam will end this night in a bloody fight for her life…

I taped this when it was on VOD so I have it on VHS, but I gotta have the real deal with the case and all. Bought the Blu-Ray….now I must have this.

  • The Woman In Black

According to Amazon, it will be available as part of a DVD/VHS Bundle (click here to check it out)

    • LifeMi

Appreciate the heads up; I got my copy pre-ordered. Can’t wait til February

  • The Buz

That is so goddamn bad ass.

  • Terminal

It looks very authentic. After The Roost I was turned off by West, but I may have to see this if they’re doing something this clever to promote it.

  • RingoJ

That is really fucking sweet, and brings back many good memories of prowling the shelves at those old local video stores.

I just preordered the VHS/DVD bundle at Amazon. Dark Sky’s really doing a phenomenal job recalling the era of early home video releases, and I can’t wait to see the film. You’re dead-on, Ringo. Man, the video store shelves were STOCKED with cases like that. Hell, I remember when I was an assistant manager at Movie Gallery in 2000; we still had a ton of those old school movies, clamshell and all (among the titles were the Alice Cooper flick “Monster Dog”, “Yellow Hair & The Fortress of Gold” and “Redneck County” (which came in a vastly oversized VHS box that looked like you needed an algorithm to open it).

  • FilmCritic3000

That is an awesomely genius idea, and I’d love to have that! I can’t wait to see this movie.

  • TheVictorian

    it should be BETAMAX!!

(minor gripe – fun promo idea, hopefully they’ll do viewmaster slides)

If vinyl LPs can make a comeback, why not VHS?
