Batman Fights Jack the Ripper in Gruesome Fan Film; Exclusive Statement from the Director

If you always wished that Warner Bros. would be a bit more willing to take risks with its Batman movies instead of giving us the same old PG-13 superhero stuff that we’ve seen a million times before, then you’re gonna love this brutal fan film which sees the Dark Knight taking on one of history’s most notorious serious serial killers: Jack the Ripper.

They’ve got some big names attached, too. None other than Kevin Smith gets a special thanks for backing the film on Indiegogo (we covered it back when it was raising funds), and actor Bruce Payne, known for films such as Dungeons & Dragons and Prowl, makes an appearance.

Director James Campbell is fully satisfied that the finished film represents his original vision, as he explains below:

It’s been a long process, probably about 18 months since the idea popped in my head and I mentioned it to Adam Bouabda (producer) as a potential final university piece. But of course it needed to be bigger… Much bigger. Fast forward and we’ve just released it and I am happy with the overall response. I knew some people weren’t going to fully dig it as this type of Batman film has not been seen before. Yes, the initial inspiration came from ‘Gotham by Gaslight’, but we created an original story, and I was desperate to have it look like an Italian horror from the 60’s & 70’s – with its vibrant colour palette and distinct musical score.

What we’ve made is not just a Batman fan film – but a niche Batman fan film, one that may not appeal to the masses, but people who are aware of the genre we’re referencing should dig it. Overall, it’s exactly the film I wanted it to be. I’m so pleased with how it looks, sounds, and of course the acting. It’s been a massive learning experience, and we most definitely couldn’t have done it without all the support and kind contributions (including Kevin Smith). Also, Adam Bouabda is the hardest working man I know so he deserves huge credit for getting this thing of ours actually made. Until next time… Fear the Bat.

And although this is a fan film, the production values are nothing short of amazing. Have a look for yourself below.

Synopsis:
London – 1888. The Jack the Ripper murders are gripping the nation, and the people of Whitechapel are growing increasingly scared. Chief Inspector Abberline is struggling to figure out who the killer is and, with added pressure from above, to catch the murderer – will his own demons begin to get the better of him…

But there is someone out there who wants to help.

Watching… in the shadows… waiting to strike.
