Mia Kirshner Joins The Vampire DiariesNot sure how we missed this story the other day — I blame holiday festivities and distractions — but in any event, it looks like The Vampire Diaries has added another recurring character: Mia Kirshner will portray Isobel, the sweet-yet-dangerous wife of substitute history teacher Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis).

The news came down via EW’s Ausiello Files Blog, which reports the actress will make her debut in the Jan. 21 episode, which, come to think of it, has already been shot. How will VD boss Kevin Williamson pull that one off? “Ever hear of an 11th hour reshoot?” sniffs an insider. “That’s what they’re doing.”

Kirshner is no stranger to our genre, particularly as it relates to vampires, having recently been signed to Ben Ketai’s 30 Days of Night: Dark Days and previously appearing in Dracula: The Series back in 1990/91.

In addition, according to TV Fanatic, two other new faces will pop up on the show. Along with Kirshner, Gina Torres will debut in the January 21st ep as a witch named Bree. They also confirmed that Brandon Quinn (if you watch Entourage, you should recognize him) will guest star in “Bloodlines” playing a mysterious character named Lee, whom Kevin Williamson describes as “a vengeful guy with a score to settle with Damon.”

Below is the promo trailer for the second half of the season, entitled “A New Chapter”. To learn more about the show, visit The Vampire Diaries‘ official site.
