Kevin Costner Thriller, The New Daughter, Opens Tomorrow

Costner takes aim in The New DaughterRemember when Kevin Coster was considered by Hollywood to be a huge box office draw? No? Well it’s true. And even if Costner’s star appeal is on the decline, I’m still surprised to hear his new thriller, The New Daughter, is getting an extremely limited release. Tomorrow.

Shock Till You Drop found out that the film will be dumped in just a few theaters in Austin, Texas and, according to Shock, the Dobie Theaters.

The New Daughter is sourced from a John Connolly novel. According to the Gold Circle Films site, Costner plays John James, a single father who moves to a house in the country with his two children following a painful divorce. Soon, however, his adolescent daughter (Ivana Baquero of Pan’s Labyrinth) begins acting strangely, and the household is plagued by disturbing events. John begins to suspect that the mysterious mound at the edge of the forest may have something to do with her ominous behavior.

Sounds interesting, and it’s a shame that the studio has little to no confidence in this one. Hopefully it won’t be a long wait until Blu-ray and DVD.
