Nispel’s Dark Future

Been wondering what Texas Chainsaw Massacre redux helmer Marcus Nispel has been up to since his critically panned version of Frankenstein from a few years back? April 20th sees the release of his next feature, the extraordinarily badass looking Viking movie Pathfinder, but he’s not done with our genre as Fangoria recently found out.

Of the many projects being juggled, we’re happy to report that the forever-delayed Alice, with Sarah Michelle Gellar in the title role, is still in the works, though no moves have been made on it for a while. He’s also got a film in the works called Sublevel about something being unearthed under Manhattan that, according to Nispel “shouldn’t be unearthed.” Spooky.

Nispel’s also working on a new movie about the life and times of Charles Manson, which may see him re-teaming with TCM remake scribe Scott Kosar. Instead of taking the usual spin on Manson’s legacy, though, he tells the mag that they are approaching their movie from an emotional angle. “Scott found a very interesting point of view from an insider,” he explained. “Personally, I’ve always been partial to an approach similar to Paul Schrader’s Hardcore.”

Hopefully we’ll hear more about all of these projects soon enough!
