If you haven’t seen the Female Convict Scorpion films, well, then you haven’t really lived. In particular, the first installment in the Toei-produced series stands as the undisputed king (or queen) of 70’s grindhouse cinema.
Twitch Film has just informed us that a remake of the original Female Prisoner 701: Scorpion is under way with a multi-national cast. Taking over the historic role of Matsu (made famous by cult icon Meiko Kaji) is Gamera 2 star Mizuno Miki.
The original tells the story of a young women who is set up by her crooked detective boyfriend and sent to a sadistic women’s prison where she inflicts her desire for vengeance on the entire populace. Little is known about the new version, but one thing is certain: It has some mighty big shoes to fill. Keep it here for the latest!
