Talk about following in the family footsteps … Fangoria just put up a brief set report from the filming of the first movie directed by Spider, former Powerman 5000 frontman and brother of Halloween redux helmer Rob Zombie. Still without a title, the project sounds very similar to some other horror works that have been bandied about Tinseltown these last few years…
For four years the Los Angeles police have been dealing with zombies, werewolves and vampires on their streets, and it’s become a PR nightmare for the LAPD. A big shot Hollywood producer is hired to show what a great job the cops are really doing so he sets up a rookie cop and his veteran partner with a film crew, who follow the duo around a la “COPS” to see just what goes down in the city’s mean streets at night. Corruption, greed and other deadly sins come into play as well as some hot monster action.
Effects are being handled by Roy Knyrim and SOTA FX (Cemetery Gates) so we at least know it’s going to look cool. The only issue I have with the whole project is how silmiar it sounds to both When Zombies Attack! (the short COPS-style film that surfaced a few years back) and Death Walks the Streets (a forever-in-development indie production). I guess props have to be given to Spider for getting his film off the ground first; I just hope the similarities are on the surface only.
