Screamfest LA’s The House of the Devil Premiere Report

This scribe hit Rachel Belofsky’s Screamfest LA in Hollywood, CA, last night (as I do every night – extensive video and stills below), where Ti West, the director of The House of the Devil (review here) (screening as the fest’s “Centerpiece Film”), talked up his new series “Dead and Lonely”, which begins airing on IFC Monday, October 26th, as well as the dust-up surroundng his Cabin Fever 2 (sort of).

Star of The House of the Devil Jocelin Donahue chimed in about her role in West’s legitimate recreation of early 80’s horror as seen in The House of the Devil , and Icelandic director Julius Kemp of the Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre (the film plays at Screamfest LA tonight) spilled on the distribution of that film (which will be at AFM – hopefully American audiences will see it soon).

Perennial badass and actor Marc (The Lost, Cabin Fever 2) Senter showed up to dish on his next film, Brawler, which he’s currently co-producing and will be directed by the vastly under-appreciated and talented Chris (The Lost) Sivertson, as well as his upcoming flick Red, White and Blue. Canadian filmmaker Kody Zimmermann talked up his Screamfest LA short “The Familiar” along with his next effort, a planned feature film entitled The Hollow Season, which he described as a “balls to the wall haunted house film.

Continuing, Jamieson Stern and director Taylor Oliver chatted up their Screamfest LA feature entry Forget Me Not (which also plays tonight), the effects Roy Knyrim of Sota FX delivered for the film, and their next genre effort, the intended slasher feature Public Storage (and yeah, that’s a scoop). Director Bill Malone talked up his feature Parasomnia (which will be distributed by E1 Entertainment) as well as his big budget sci-fi flick Phoenix Dust, which will feature, according to the filmmaker, “monsters, robots, and half-naked chicks kicking ass.

It didn’t end there. With an after-party at The Roosevelt Hotel unsurprisingly deep in genre filmmakers (Dave Parker was on hand following his release of The Hills Run Red, as was Feast series director John Gulager and wife Diane Goldner), Grace producer and Hatchet director Adam Green (hanging with actor Kevin Zegers) let loose that his latest written and directed feature Frozen is hoping for a Sundance inclusion and that the flick will most likely hit US audiences in February of 2010.

I’ll be back at Screamfest LA tonight – and here’s an exclusive: I’m honored to be hosting the Screamfest LA Award Ceremony at Level 3 at Hollywood and Highland this Sunday (I hope I don’t suck). Stay tuned for more, and thanks to Dread Central’s Heather Wixson for ruling as she does. It’s 5:15 am: sleep now.
