Monster Squad Gets a Director - But It's Not a RemakeUm. We’re a little confused. Just a smidge. You see, there was this little flick roaming around called Nightcrawlers that sounded pretty decent. Lo and behold today the film has not only gotten itself a director but also a new title — Monster Squad! But … it’s not a remake. Okay then.

According to the Hollywood Reporter now that McG is no longer attached, Mike Mitchell will direct Monster Squad for Warner Bros. It is described as a long-gestating supernatural action comedy.

The studio picked up Nightcrawlers as a spec by Brian Lynch in 2000. The project went through numerous writers, including Michael Arndt and Audrey Wells, as Warner sought to find the right balance of laughs and chills.

Brad Copeland wrote the current script, and Warner is aiming for a shoot in late summer 2010. Keep it here for more.
