A quiet, dedicated social worker, Anna, suffers a mental breakdown when she finds the murdered body of a child under her care. She struggles to come to grips with the guilt and terror she feels and ends up consulting a psychic for help. Click to see it bigger!Barricade (2007)
Directed by Timo Rose

Tim Rose has been known to those who follow such things as a splat master and surely Barricade is no exception to this rule. Filled with all sorts of nastiness, the story follows a young man whose best friend and sometimes girlfriend comes to spend some time with him in Germany. During a hike through the Black Forrest, the two of them come upon an evil clan of sickos in the woods whose only goal is to kill as many and as messily as they can. Directed by Robert Wilson

A group of friends head out to an isolated lakeside cabin for a long-overdue reunion and a weekend of the usual things girls and boys in their 20’s do. When one of them dares another to play “Dead Mary” (which is just a take on Bloody Mary, lest you be fooled), things go very nasty. One by one they are possessed by a vengeful spirit who turns them on one another and forces them to hack each other into pieces to live. Check out our DVD review of Dead Mary for more! Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Delivery (2007)
Directed by Jose Zambrano Cassella

Troubled loner Monty is trying to recover from his traumatic past by making some easy money delivering pizzas. He’s working towards a better future, something that becomes that much easier when he finally meets the girl of his dreams. But, as with most things that involve women, things get bad and the demons who make their home in Monty’s brain come back to the forefront, unleashing a murderous rampage on all who dare order delivery! Click to see it bigger!Hard (2007)
Directed by John Huckert

Despite the rather questionable title, Hard is actually a gritty tale of a madman who is targeting male hustlers in and around Hollywood, the murders of which the police eventually deduce are the work of a serial killer. Two detectives take it upon themselves to bring the crazed psycho to justice, despite the indifference of the police department, who sees the crimes as mere misdemeanors because of the type of victim. Click to see it bigger! The Kadokawa Horror Collection
Directed by Various

A four-disc set of J-horror movies that didn’t become terribly popular, this collection features the films Inugami, about dog spirits who may or may not be causing the deaths of the residents of a small village; Shikoku, telling of three friends mourning the loss of a third, whose ghost is still wandering their hometown; Shadow of Wraith, actually two horror tales loosely connected by some kind of J-pop superstars; and Isola, about a psychic girl who stays behind after an earthquake and is exposed to something terrible. Click to see it bigger!Lunacy (2006)
Directed by Jan Svankmajer

Set in 19th Century France, Lunacy is based on a fairly obscure story by Edgar Allan Poe about a mental hospital in which the patients are in charge, the only ruler above them being the Marquis de Sade. The film has been called satirical and brilliant, though I’ve yet to find a single plot synopsis that makes any more sense than what you just read. I guess that’s what you get when you go for a Svankmajer film, though. A making-of featurette and some behind-the-scenes goodies are about all the disc has to offer. Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger! The Mailman (2004)
Directed by Tony Mark

Wow, we sure are lucky this week; a movie about a killer pizza delivery man and a psychopathic mailman? What did we do to deserve this? The story here is about a psycho who fills the shoes of the local mailman after killing him in order to torment his brother and his brother’s adopted family. Soon the brother is all about helping out tormenting when he realizes he’s adopted so he helps out the murdering mail handler, but when he sees just how unhinged this civil servant is, he starts having second thoughts. Click to see it bigger!Night of the Living Dorks (2007)
Directed by Mathias Dinter

A truly terrible title for a film that is, by all accounts, really not that bad. The story is about three dorks (hence the title) who become undead after hanging with the wrong crowd and utilize their inability to feel pain and super strength to have some well-deserved fun; the only drawback is that they’re dead and slowly rotting away. I’ve found girls don’t dig that much. Check out our DVD review of Night of the Living Dorks for more! Buy it here!

Click to see it bigger!Open Water 2: Adrift (2006)
Directed by Hans Horn

How do you make a sequel to a film in which the only two characters died at the end? Simple, you don’t; you just nab another similarly themed film and slap a 2 on it! Originally shot and released under the title Adrift (at least in the UK), this film finds a group of friends who aren’t stranded because a boat left them behind, oh no; they’re stranded because they forgot to put down the ladder that will let them back onto the boat, which is only a few feet away. Click to see it bigger!Wilderness (2006)
Directed by Michael J. Bassett

This is what happens if you’re a bad kid, so take note. They scoop you up and put you in a juvenile detention center, and then, if you’re really, really bad, they send you out to an island where you’re left to survive against a pack of wild dogs that are trained to kill on sight. Yeah, not exactly a fun weekend getaway is it? So don’t fuck up! To help keep you safe and indoors, check out our review of Wilderness to learn more about it! Buy it here!
