Paranormal Activity’s Box Office Numbers and a Message from Oren Peli

Dread Central was present at two of Paranormal Activity‘s midnight screenings this past week — in Austin at Fantasic Fest and in Boston (read our report here) — and preliminary box office numbers indicate the enthusiastic crowd reactions we saw were mirrored at every other location where it played. In addition, Paramount reports that the film’s website has been “bombarded” with over 200,000 requests for additional screenings.

According to Variety, Paramount Activity logged a solid $80,000 from its late night screenings Friday and Saturday in a dozen college cities; nearly all 24 shows sold out.

These stats bode well for a gradual widening of the studio’s release plans, and to make sure that fans know first-hand what an impact their “demands” have had on the project’s success, director Oren Peli has recorded a video thanking everyone.

We should be hearing about which new markets will be added to the Paranormal Activity tidal wave of terror in the next couple of days. Keep it here for more, and DEMAND IT in your town!
