David Cronenberg Remaking His Remake of The Fly?

The above headline kind of makes our heads hurt a little. Just a little. Two questions beckon … Why remake a remake? and If you’re going to remake a remake, who better than the director of the original remake to remake his own remake into a brand new remake? Okay. I’m gonna need some Advil, stat!

According to THR’s Risky Biz Blog, “David Cronenberg is returning to The Fly. The auteur will develop a reboot of the 1986 classic with Fox, the studio that released that film, directing and potentially writing the new pic. The move marks an about-face for the Canadian director, who in the past has said he did not want to be involved on a remake of the film.

Risky Biz indeed! Look for more on this odd turn of events soon. In the interim check out the trailer for, well, the original remake that’s prepping to be remade. Whoa.

Could it possibly be a filmed version of the *opera* he stage directed (last year?) that was based on ‘The Fly’? That would be awesome, and would make a lot more sense than a straight re-make…

    • G.D.

Yes. Filming and releasing an opera based on a horror movie would make a lot more sense than remaking the movie, because who ever heard of remaking a movie?!?

It would be more interesting, and maybe even good. How often have you heard of remaking a movie in a good way? I’m giving Cronenberg the benefit of the doubt here. He *did* stage ‘The Fly’ as an opera, recently, so a film of that just makes more sense than rehashing an old rehash as just another rehash, I think he’s more creative than that and I will be very surprised if he does choose to just do a remake of the movie he already remade.

That actually makes a lot of sense. I think you may be onto something.

    This is a joke… right!

this almost sounds like something you’d say to a villainous super computer in a movie to make it blow up.
