Swampy Updates on Boggy Creek and Muckman

We’ve been following the progress of two new swamp monster movies in the works, and today we can bring you new news on both. More plot details have emerged on the Boggy Creek non-remake. The first image giving us a good look at swamp thing on the prowl in Brett Piper’s Muckman is now available for gawking at. Put on your galoshes; things are about to get swampy.

It seems almost strange that more and more information about this Boggy Creek flick is coming via local newspapers in the areas where the film is shooting rather than Internet horror websites. That truly is the mark of an old school indie film production. Another surefire sign is when you’re actually filming in a town named Uncertain.

Last month I reported on news courtesy of a Texarkana newspaper, and this month our Boggy Creek news comes via the Marshall News Messenger. So what more do we know now? I’ll just quote the article:

“It’s a thriller that centers around a story of five young kids who get caught out in a swamp in Boggy Creek, Texas,” explained Brian T. Jaynes, director and producer. “They end up crossing paths with an ancient evil creature that lives in the swamp.”

The movie is loosely based on the old Bigfoot or Sasquatch legends, he explained. “We’re kind of combining that with some ancient Caddo Indian mysticism and mythology,” said Jaynes. “We kind of took a little creative license with it and painted our own version of Sasquatch.”

We also learn that they signed on the appropriately named Texas Battle (Final Destination 3, Wrong Turn 2) to star. Also starring is Stephanie Honore, whom many of you recently saw get decapitated in 3D in The Final Destination. Somebody involved with this movie must really like the Final Destination movies.

Go read the article for a slice of down home enthusiasm; the gist of it is how exciting it is for the small town of Uncertain to be hosting a movie shoot. Apparently they haven’t been that Hollywood since “Walker: Texas Ranger” came to town.

The article also mentions that BoggyCreekTheMovie.com will be launching soon – nothing there right now. At least we know the film will soon have a web presence that doesn’t require us to go in search of online articles from local papers.

Another indie swamp monster movie filming is Brett Piper’s Muckman. I first reported on the creature feature back in August. We still only know about as much about the plot now as we did then: “A TV documentary crew searches the woods for a fabled creature.” Honestly, though, don’t we already know the plot is really all about a muck monster terrorizing people? This is shaping up to be old school b-monster moviemaking at its finest.

Thanks to Monster Island News we also have our very first image of the Muckman himself. Behold!

Behold the Muckman!
