Night of the Living Dead in 3D Again?

Night of the Living Dead in 3D ... Again!Didn’t we just get treated to a 3D remake of Night of the Living Dead a few years ago, and didn’t it pretty much suck to high heaven? Here we are once again, and for the record George A. Romero has nothing to do with this production either. This time it’s being produced by Simon West, director of the abysmal remake When a Stranger Calls and the equally atrocious Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

Fortunately, Simon West will not be in the director’s chair. Directing duties fall in the lap of Zebediah de Soto, who has also co-written the script. Zeb directed the short film “War Dogs” and was the man behind all of the promos you’ve seen online for such entities as us, Bloody-Disgusting, Screamfest LA, and the site that shall not be named.

The Hollywood Reporter‘s Heat Vision blog broke the news of the coming of Night of the Living Dead: Origins. Yep, that’s the title they’re going with. That’s because this take on the horror classic intends to “update the tale partially by bringing out the characters’ backstories and make what (de Soto) called “an American-style anime.

American-style anime? The article goes on to explain this new wrinkle.

“The latter will be done by using new technology the filmmaker is inventing. De Soto, along with partner Gus Malliarodaki, founded New Golden Digital, a digital effects company which develops cutting-edge hardware and software.

The duo created and designed a real-time effects system, known as ‘The Beast’, which allows filmmakers the ability to direct CG performances the same way they would direct real live actors. The aim of the process is to make tennis balls on a stick representing real people or monsters a thing of the past by allowing actors to interact with CG elements as if they are tangible.”

We’ll see how this one progresses.

In other NOTLD news, about a year ago I attended my nephew’s high school Halloween stage production of Night of the Living Dead. Their version ended with the entire cast on stage dancing to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. If Romero’s classic can survive that, then it can survive anything.

You are definately right about the other 3D movie. I don’t have the words to describe how bad it is.

If there was anyone else at the directorial helm for a project like this, I’d be completely dismissing it but simply put … Zeb’s work is nothing short of amazing and this new technique he’s come up with is gonna completely blow people’s minds. Mark my words … this one is gonna be pretty bitchin’.
