Akira Adaptation Moving Along

It’s been a good long while since there was anything to report on concerning Warner Bros.’ plans to adapt the anime sensation Akira into a big budget live action extravaganza. Over a year, in fact. Finally a bit of news has trickled out.

Collider now reports that both Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (Children of Men, Iron Man)are just about ready to turn in their version of the script, which focuses on what happens when a Manhattan based teen biker gang member is subjected to a government experiment that unleashes some pretty devastating powers.

According to the site and their “trusted source”, “If the script meets with approval from key people, the movie could go into production in 2010 with a release date in 2011.”

That’s all we have for you now. Stay tuned for any new developments.
