Lord knows we don’t need another version of Straw Dogs; we just don’t. In fact, if there’s a common thread among all remakes these days (yes, even the good ones), it’s that they’re pointless. I’m sure director Rod Lurie (The Last Castle) will put together a competent enough film, but really: Why?
If anything, though, today’s casting news has confirmed we’ll get at least one strong performance in the upcoming rehash. (I’ll leave you to figure out who.)
According to director Lurie’s official Facebook page, the production is beginning stunt rehearsals today with James Woods and Dominic Purcell. They join James Marsden and Kate Bosworth in the remake of Sam Peckinpah’s 1971 masterpiece in which a young couple fall prey to escalating harassment from a group of small town locals.
I’m sure this will be slick, maybe even compelling. But why bother when Peckinpah got it all right the first time around?
