Variety is reporting that due to a scheduling conflict actress Rachelle Lefevre will be unable to reprise her role as villainous redheaded vampire vixen “Victoria” in the third installment in the Twilight film franchise. Replacing her in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will be an even more famous redhead, daughter of Opie, Bryce Dallas Howard.
I’m still trying to get a handle on Bryce Dallas Howard’s career trajectory. She burst on the scene as a wet, frequently naked, bewildered-looking water nymph in M. Night’s Lady in the Water (I’m still trying to forget The Village so I won’t count her starring role in it) and followed that up in Spider-Man 3 as Gwen Stacy, providing such a breath of fresh air I still find it hard to believe Peter Parker insisted on going back to old snaggletooth Mary Jane Dunst, and then there was her star-making role this past summer in Terminator: Salvation as John Connor’s pregnant wife who barely says or does anything the whole film. Now she’s a back-up plan supporting player in a Twilight sequel? Howard is beautiful and talented, and it just seems to me like she should be getting better roles than this.
Shooting on Eclipse begins in August in Vancouver under the direction of David Slade (30 Days of Night, Hard Candy).
On the plus side, it shouldn’t be too hard for the make-up department to give her a Twilight vampire makeover since her skin is already pale enough as it is.
