SDCC 09: Kelly Shows us His Box

San Diego Comic-Con 2009Although Richard Kelly was greeted by legions of Donnie Darko fans, the main thing he was here to do at the SDCC was to showcase his new project The Box starring Cameron Diaz, Frank Langela, and James Marsden.

Things opened with a clip:

Virgins 1776: Norma (Diaz) opens here door to speak with a disfigured salesman (Langela) who asked her if she received her package in the mail yet. A strange box. He then informs her he’s there to make her a financial offer. All she has to do is push the button on the box and someone who she doesn’t know will die. In return for doing that she’d get a millions dollars — tax free and in cash. From there in true Kelly fashion the clip skips around through different points in time and is filled with shimmering portals, etc. The flick looks really deep and headsy, and that’s what we all want anyway, right?

You won’t know what’s gonna happen from moment to moment in the film”, says Kelly. Maybe so but as he’s proved before that’s all part of the fun!
