Hoskins Doesn’t Fear the Reaper

Today has been feeling like a weird day enough without this odd news rolling in that good old Bob Hoskins will be in Doomsday, the next film from The Descent‘s writer/director Neil Marshall.

But why do you call it strange? Why? Maybe it is just the bad taste the last Rogue Pictures film left in my mouth: The Hitcher. To be honest that was really Platinum Dunes’ fault for under-using Sean Bean and kicking us in the teeth with music video after music video.

I have a lot of faith in Neil Marshall after seeing how much he did with an all female cast in The Descent. There should be little doubt he can put the talented Hoskins to work, especially when it comes to a film concerning a widespread deadly virus.

In DOOMSDAY, a lethal virus spreads throughout a major country and kills hundreds of thousands. To contain the newly identified Reaper, the authorities brutally quarantine the country as it succumbs to fear and chaos. The literal walling-off works for three decades – until Reaper violently resurfaces in a major city. An elite group of specialists, including Eden Sinclair (Ms. Mitra), is urgently dispatched into the still-quarantined country to retrieve a cure by any means necessary. Shut off from the rest of the world, the unit must battle through a landscape that has become a waking nightmare.

While calling a virus Reaper seems a tad silly we should all keep an optimistic outlook. As soon as we hear more on this project it will be posted ASAP.
