The Gate: Monstrous Special Edition Coming!

Ah, Lionsgate. There are days when we just want to kiss you. Today is one of those days. I cannot believe I’m about to write these words … The Gate, yes you read right, THE GATE, is heading to us on DVD in what is being called a Monstrous Special Edition! And somewhere off in the distance you can hear the faint sounds of angels singing!

From the Press Release:
Lionsgate is proud to announce the upcoming DVD release arriving on October 6th – The Gate: Monstrous Special Edition.

The Gate debuts in a Special Edition DVD this October from Lionsgate. Starring Stephen Dorff (Public Enemies), Kelly Rowan (TV’s “The O.C.”) and Jennifer Irwin (HBO’s “Eastbound & Down”), the film is a terrifying tale about three children who accidently open a gate to hell which releases demons from an ancient civilization. The Gate: Monstrous Special Edition is loaded with new special features, including audio commentary with the director, interviews with the cast and crew, a stills gallery and the original theatrical trailer.

They are here and they want to meet the neighbors. After an old tree is removed from the ground, three teenagers come across a special rock with a beautiful crystalline center in their backyard. The rock enthralls them and they dig up the family’s lawn in a search for more of the precious stones. However, instead of stones, they find the Gate: a hidden underground chamber that holds the secret of centuries and the vengeance of eternity. Their actions inadvertently liberate a horde of nasty, pint-sized demons from the hole and what follows is a classic battle between good and evil as the three kids struggle to overcome a nightmarish hell that is literally taking over the Earth.
Pricing: DVD $19.98.

Can’t …. stop …. smiling ….

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never, ever choose to be.

Know what bothers me about this box-art other than the fact that the original art was perfect and better? The kids in it were metal heads. Why is the kid on the box in sandals? Little thing I know … but still!

  • Chainsaw

Neat! Can’t wait to see what terrible, terrible cover they pick instead of the awesome poster!

  • Floydian Trip

I have never seen this one.

  • Pestilence

    OH. HELL. YES.

As long as we can all forget the sequel…..

I actually already have it on DVD but this is one of my favorite horror films and would gladly double dip! This film SO deserves a special edition!

This is wonderful news! I’ll definitely be there on the 6th to pick that one up!

  • The Unknown Murderer

I love this movie. I still remember begging my parents to see it, and when we arrived at the theater, my brother turned traitor.

He started whining “I don’t wanna see this movie!” He even went so far as to plop his lame ass on the sidewalk while he complained. Then he said, “I wanna see ‘Ernest Goes To Camp’ instead!”

My parents decided to resolve the issue by making us flip a quarter. My brother won.

    The little bastard.

That’s cause for fratricide, right there.
