Cast Fills Out for Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark

Cast Fills Out for Don't Be Afraid of the DarkSome movement on the Guillermo del Toro produced Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark remake. Two actors are getting ready to star beside the already cast Katie Holmes. Who might they be?

According to THR Bailee Madison (The Bridge to Terabithia) has signed to join Holmes, and Guy Pearce is in the final stages of negotiations.

Madison will play the girl who discovers the creatures and is fascinated by them until they prove dangerous. Pearce (if signed) will play her father, an author frustrated by his daughter’s tales of monsters who will not believe her even though his girlfriend (Holmes) backs her up about the little beasties.

Del Toro and Matthew Robbins wrote the script with Troy Nixey directing. The movie is set to begin production next month in Melbourne, Australia, close to where the master of horror is shooting The Hobbit.

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never, ever choose to be.

Guy Pierce is signed and in rehersals. He says that they are going for PG 13 but at the top end of the scale so hopefully they Know where the top end of PG-13 is rather than giving us the usual teen “frights” that induce bouts of narcolepsy in even the worst insomniacs.

Dude, GDT can handle it, alright? Let’s not worry about Guillermo del Toro. The man is on it.

He’s one of my favorite working directors, make no mistake.
That said, I don’t have blind faith. Again, HELLBOY II just didn’t work in the end. And THE STRAIN isn’t very good. Even geniuses like Polanski and Altman have had great missteps in their careers.
Factor in they are radically changing a film I love (and I could go into the whole scenario changing mucks up the subtext of the original idea overall bla bla bla, but I don’t feel like it right now…I’ll save it for the eventual review) and my brightest hope is the fact that Troy Nixey is directing (NOT Del Toro, which sounds like maybe what you think is going on)

The short Troy Nixey did was amazing, so yep, I have a lot of hope.

      And a lot of trepadition.

It seems like Del Torro is becoming the master of fantasy rather than the master of horror, and yes, HellBoy II was all over the place. Horror was distant in the the shadow of muppets, romance and comedy (far from what I ever imagined Hellboy being…and now Liz is preggo, c’mon! Seriously?).
I do love Troy Nixey’s work in the comic medium, curious to see if he’s able to do the film medium justice as well.

I’m guessing this is the same Troy Nixey who used to draw comics? He did a heavily H.P. Lovecraft inspired comic with Mike Mignola that was pretty cool. I’m now interested in this.

They did two actually, one was Jenny Finn which never got officially finished by Nixey for some dumb reason. But did get released as finished with a different artist stepping in to complete the task. The other is a DC Batman miniseries called The Doom That Came To Gotham, amazing Batman revisionist type story taking place in a Lovecraft universe. Super amazing tale. Oh, then there’s Only the End of the World, with T. Nixey, N. Gaimen and P. Craig Russel. Another Lovecraftian tale involving a werewolf, gypsies and other creepiness. worth hunting down a copy.

I hope they dont fuck up my beloved favorite telehorror from my childhood.

Not super into the direction it sounds to be going. The paranoia aspect is being leeched away it seems.

With GDT’s massive HELLBOY II misfire (yeah, let’s face it that film was a mess) and the only so-so THE STRAIN maybe GDT is doing too much at once.
