Freddy Krueger: Coffee, Tea, or Me?

Jackie Earle Haley, the man who will be Krueger, has been busy lately. After his excellent turn as Rorschach in Watchmen, Platinum Dunes was pretty quick to snap him up for its A Nightmare on Elm Street remake, currently shooting in and around Chicago.

Haley may be hard at work on the remake, but he’s got the time to tease fans about Krueger’s latest look. This pic, featured on the actor’s Twitter page, may appear to be just a cup of coffee, but what’s that over on the right?

It’s understandable why Platinum Dunes want to keep the nightmare man’s new look under lock and key, but is it really going to be much different from what the last eight movies came up with? While we wait and see, we’ve got little teases like this to keep us on the proverbial edge of our seats.

You know, I don’t know why but this gets me really excited for NOES. I think it is going to be good. Uncle Creepy, I know your feelings on PDune, but I think this is going to be a winner.

It’s true, I do dislike PD films for the most part but I always try and keep an open mind. I did like their Chainsaw remake and honestly the Amityville one wasn’t terrible either. Though considering how crappy most of the films were in the Amity series, that’s not really saying a lot. LOL

I enjoyed Amity too! I think for some reason it was Ryan Reynolds (go ahead and laugh). I never liked him until after Blade 3 (which I hated, except for his character). Then I enjoyed his performance in Smoking Aces. For some reason he gets more sarcastic and cocky when he has a beard and gives a stronger performance, but anyway I think he carried the whole film. It’s kind of the same way I feel about R. Lee Ermey, I think Re-TCM and Beginnings would have been awful without him, but then again I have never found a R.Lee film I didn’t like, at least his character.

I think Jackie Earle Haley will at least be half the Krueger that Robert Englund was. (Don’t shoot me, I am a big fan of Robert) but even he has said he is getting a little old and this is a pre-fire starting film. Plus Haley was great as Rorschach Maybe a Robert Cameo would be cool. I’m really hoping this shows more family life of Freddy. More about Katherine would be great too. If done right this could be legendary.

Now some sick part of me demands Hobo Freddy Krueger.

I don’t think we have to worry about that.

Back to Amity for a second …

The scene with Reynolds making the kid hold the wood while he chopped was really good.

That’s what I’m talking about and the look in his eyes when he goes completely crazy. He had it pegged. I truthfully think that he should do more horror/action and give up on stuff like this Friday’s Proposal, but that’s the horror fan speaking.

Back to NOES, sorry, You know this one is going to be tough. Not knocking Mikey or Jason (cause I’m more of a fan of them), but Freddy has a lot more personality. I mean really when it comes down to it, the others just wear a mask, ( that’s why I am so at arms about Myers in H2. All Mikey has going for him is the Shatner mask, really you take that away even partly and it would be like taking Freddy’s sarcasm and his glove away, and while we are at it no more Christmas sweater. Haley has some big shoes to fill but I am routing for him.

The funny thing is I want LESS personality from Freddy. I want the Freddy from the original film back AND NOT the wisecracking cuddly serial killer that launched 1m lunchboxes!

True, now that you say that, he didn’t have as much personality in the first one. Still more than J & M. I really liked the Freddy from a New Nightmare, but before everyone gets all technical on me, I know it was a Demon and not Freddy, but he was a lot darker. I don’t know either way, this is a must see.

Already looks a little on the slick side…

So Wolverine is in this flick!
