More on the Buffy Remake – Whedon Doesn’t Want to be Involved

More on the Buffy Remake - Whedon Doesn't Want to be InvolvedIn a rare display of common sense, it seems that the powers that be behind the upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer big screen remake tried extending an olive branch to creator Joss Whedon in the hopes of getting him involved in the project.

During a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly, Whedon dished on ill-advised rehash: ”I believe [the producers] did ultimately reach out to my agent after the news broke,” Whedon says. “I think that’s something better left untouched by me. So, I wish them luck.”

I’ll go ahead and echo the popular sentiment on this subject – it’s a terrible idea. Hell, Buffy is having a tough time staying fresh in Whedon’s own comic book (which has gone wildly off the rails), so what’s left for another feature film with a brand new cast? It’d be one thing if Joss wanted to get the gang together for a big budget encore, but this desperate attempt at launching a new franchise is about as cynical as you can get.

I already know the mindset going into this was. “Say, we need something that’s like ‘Twilight’! What involves teenagers and vampires?”

“Yeah, Dude! Let’s go snort some coke off some hooker ass!”

    *Bumps fists*

*Cut to 3 weeks later, after a drug-fueled rampage*

“…Hey, should we call Joss Whedon about this?”

I seriously LOATHE this idea. Like, “If you liked Buffy, but wish that it had sucked more, here! Watch this!”

Who knows what other reason he may have for not doing it. studios are infamous for having original creators just for their name value alone and not giving them any real authority on the project.
