Reading through Clive Barker’s Books of Blood was some of the most fun I’ve ever had with the genre. Sure, not every story was a winner, but the sheer imagination on display was astonishing. With director John Harrison having lensed two stories for an anthology film, I had some hope of seeing the adaptation hit the multiplexes.

Book of Blood will make its Blu-ray and DVD debut on September 29, courtesy of Lightening Media. This disc will present the movie in 16×9-enhanced 1.78 widescreen with 5.1 Surround sound, accompanied by a making-of featurette running approximately 20 minutes.

Jonas Armstrong stars in BOOK OF BLOOD as a medium who is brought by a parapsychologist (Sophie Ward) to an allegedly haunted house. At first he fakes sightings of the spirits, but then they begin to manifest for real — and carve words into his skin.

New Barker projects are always welcome, and here’s hoping the legend will one day get behind the camera again to direct another feature. He’s three for three in my eyes.

Someone needs to get Clive Barker out of his shell so he can direct another horror film. I want to feel as uneasy as I did when watching Hellraiser again and no director can do that as good as Barker can.

I’ll buy it, because hell I bought Saint Sinner, so its obvious I’ll buy anything with Clive Barker’s name attached to it, however vile.

No Barker/Harrison commentary track? That’s a shame. I love to hear the man talk and the Barker/Kitamura track on MMT was excellent.
