We have some very sad news to share with our readers. David A. Prior, a filmmaker perhaps best known for such movies as Killer Workout, Lost Platoon, and the beloved cult flick Deadly Prey, among many others, has passed away. Prior had recently celebrated his 59th birthday.

According to reports, Prior passed away over the weekend following a “battle with failing health.” The news of the director’s death first broke on Facebook, and it didn’t take long for friends and fans to celebrate Prior’s life and work. It’s clear the man and his movies were loved by many.

On Monday (August 17), Art James wrote on Facebook, “Hey everyone, Ted has asked me to pass on to all of David’s friends and acquaintances that he thanks you sincerely for all the kind words that have come his way about his dear brother and our friend David Prior. David passed away over the weekend after a long battle with failing health. We don’t know the official cause yet but will soon. For now, Ted and Jodi send their love and deepest thanks to you all.

Duncan Parker shared the following photo of David A. Prior after his passing. Myself and the folks at Dread Central send our condolences to the filmmaker’s family, friends, and fans.

Published

on

Four months ago we let you guys know that David S. Goyer was going to be directing the upcoming big-budget reboot of Masters of the Universe… but he has since dropped out of the director’s chair.

That said, Sony still views the He-Man property as a hot commodity and hopes this reboot will kick off a major new franchise, so today we have news via Variety that the reboot has snagged new directors in the form of The Nee Brothers.

The brothers co-directed the indie-thriller Band of Robbers. And while Goyer passed on directing the film, he’s still attached as writer/executive producer, and sources say he’s still extremely involved in the film’s development.

Are you excited for the upcoming reboot of Masters of the Universe? Let us know what you think in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!

The reboot is set to hit theaters December 18th, 2019.
