Medusa Turning NYC and LA Audiences to Stone in October

Earlier today our review of Jorge Ameer’s contemporary take on the Greek legend of Medusa went up, and now we have word on a couple of theatrical showings heading to each of our country’s coasts in October (i.e., New York City and Los Angeles). As a bonus, if you’re in the LA area, you can attend a series of events happening opening week after the 9:55 pm showings, including a costume contest, dubbed the “9:55 PM Witching Hour” series.

Medusa, the latest project from filmmaker Jorge Ameer (D’Agostino, The Dark Side of Love, Sabor Tropical), is a creature feature/Gothic tale of terror based on the Greek mythology of gorgons and gods, and it’s “pretty damn entertaining” according to our own Matt Boiselle. The style and inspiration for the “look” and “feel” of Medusa were based on Ameer’s fascination with Andy Warhol’s films Flesh for Frankenstein (1973) and Blood for Dracula (1974), directed by Paul Morrissey.

The cast includes Jeff Allen, Tom Struckhoff, Britt Rose, Katy Foley, Algerita Wynn, Torie Tyson, Carlos Moreno, Jr., Jon Jacobs, Dennis Nicomede, Keith Roenke, Katya Zhylka, and Scott Parietti with a special appearance by William McNamara (Stealing Home, Copycat) as Dr. Gleason. Additionally, Ameer appears briefly in a pivotal role.  VFX are provided by Jeremy Vanneman (Ant-Man, Jurassic World, Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man 3, Star Trek into Darkness, Godzilla, and Pacific Rim, among many others).

The New York premiere is on October 2nd at The Producers Club Theatres, 358 West 44th Street.  Visit BrownPaperTickets.com for tickets.

Medusa kicks off in Los Angeles on October 16th at Laemmle’s NoHo 7, 5240 Lankershim Blvd. Get ticket info at Laemmle.com, and for the full “9:55 PM Witching Hour” schedule, scroll down a bit below the photos and trailer.

Synopsis:
Jack Peruci (Allen ) is a mythology professor. He acquires an antique artifact from Kao, a shady witchdoctor (Ameer). When Peruci returns to his home to study his recent acquisition, he experiences a series of supernatural encounters. As Jack gets lured by this strange force, the gorgon Medusa uses all earthly means available to take possession of what’s she’s after… Jack’s soul. Through her supernatural powers, she manipulate Jack’s surroundings, creating pandemonium in order to enter his world. From that moment on, Jack suffers from increasingly disturbing nightmares. As these nightmares intensify, Jack recruits his best friend, Steven Craig (Struckhoff), a psychologist who specializes in hypnotherapy, to help him solve this mystery. Steven, through his sessions, unveils that Jack’s bloodline is key to his paranormal disruptions. As Jack falls prey to the evil that haunts him, he must fight the ghostly disturbances head-on in order to avoid his soul being used as the vessel of resurrection.
