You’d think at this point in the world’s cinematic history that filmmakers in China would have crafted an English-speaking sci-fi flick. However, you’d be very wrong in that assumption. In fact, co-writer Peter Cameron (Last Flight, Guillermo del Toro’s Carnival Row) and director Vincent Zhou’s upcoming endeavor Lost in the Pacific is the very first English-language science fiction movie from a Chinese production company. In other words, producers are hoping this thing sets the box office on fire. Figuratively, of course. Always figuratively.

Lost in the Pacific explores what happens in the year 2020 when “a group of international elite passengers embark on an inaugural luxury and transoceanic flight that later gets into a seemingly unexplainable catastrophe.” Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) and Zhang Yuqi (White Deer Plain) star. Peter Cameron co-wrote the screenplay with director Zhou.

Zhou says the finished product “will be an extraordinary visual and acoustical experience with a unique adventure story for the global audience without language barriers.” I’ll be honest — he lost me at acoustical, but it certainly sounds pretty cool.

Although the film is still in post-production, Zhou and sales agent Arclight Films hope to have the flick in theaters in the US by the end of 2015. While you’re waiting to see if the movie hits a big screen in your neck of the woods, have a look at some stills from Lost in the Pacific below.
