Out of all the indie horror productions currently heading towards fruition, Ghostpuncher is perhaps the most exciting. Not only is the concept beyond intriguing, it’s also spearheaded by writer, co-producer, and all-around nice guy Jordan McCloskey. Fortunately for those who can’t wait to see how this flick unfolds, McCloskey was able to add some serious talent to his forthcoming project.

For starters, Triton Films Inc. and Tiyabella Visual Effect owner Gabriel Napora has signed on as producer. In addition to producing the Danny Trejo flick Juarez 2045, Napora also produced the short flick that served as inspiration for Neill Blomkamp’s underappreciated Chappie.

Napora said about the upcoming project, “I was really excited to be chosen as producer for Ghostpuncher. Jordan has written a script that is not only hilarious but has some real emotion to it and has the potential to have many sequels. I also love that the film has the potential to do some groundbreaking visual effects, which I love to be a part of. And our director, Trevor Cornish, is in my opinion one of the best comedy commercial directors working today. We’re having a lot of fun.

Director Cornish, whose short film Roland premiered at TIFF 2013, will lend his talents to Ghostpuncher. According to McCloskey, Cornish “has garnered international awards for his commercial work, including awards at One Show, New York Advertising Awards, London International Advertising Awards, Art Directors Club France, ADCC Award Show, Bessies, Marketing Awards, Eurobestlive Awards, Art & Design Show, and he has been nominated six times for a Cannes Lions Award. Trevor has also directed two video games for EA Sports and TV episodes for ‘Mayday’ for National Geographic UK/Discovery Channel and HBO/Cinemax TV’s series ‘Lingerie.’

Jordan sent me an early version of the script to see if I’d have any interest in directing it. The concept had me hooked right away. It really hearkens back to the type of films I loved growing up, and so rarely see these days. So we’ve really set out to capture some of that old school genre feel, and not just for nostalgia sake, but because the films were scarier, funnier, and just all around better for it,” Cornish said in a short statement to Dread Central about the project.

Unfamiliar with Ghostpuncher? Have a look at the following synopsis:

Ghostpuncher is the story of a single father and his son who move into a house that is EXTREMELY haunted by three spirits known as The Collombelles (a mother and her two daughters who were serial killers in 1897.) At first the ghosts are playful and harmless, but when the spirits become menacing, eventually possessing dad, the son turns to the ONLY place he can think of for help… THE INTERNET. There he finds a desperate, down and out exorcist calling himself the “Ghostpuncher,” who claims to have a gift that allows him to PUNCH ghosts and send them BACK to the netherworld. He is willing to perform this exorcism, for a price of course, but quickly discovers the ghosts in the house won’t go down without a bloody fight.

In short, things are certainly looking up for Ghostpuncher. And if you haven’t heard the theme song, then you need to correct that problem by investigating the clip below.
