Just in case you thought Troma’s Poultrygeist was the only poultry-themed horror comedy coming down the pike, have you heard about Zombeak? I remember hearing about this one about two years ago and then not a peep since, so after suddenly remembering the film’s title, I decided to Google it and see if there was anything new on the film that last I’d heard hadn’t even begun production. It’s real, folks.
The plot to the ultra low budget horror comedy that writer/director Sam Drog bills as “the world’s first satanic killer zombie chicken movie” goes a little something like this:
“On the darkest night of the year, when Satan is allowed free reign to walk the earth, a motley crew of Satanists kidnap a sharp tongued southern waitress to be a given up as the Dark One’s bride and mortal host of the antichrist. But when her rowdy redneck friends botch up the ritual in a violent rescue attempt, all power of hell is inadvertently transferred into the most unlikely of hosts: a sacrificed chicken! Now, the Satanists and Rednecks battle one another as an evil most fowl threatens to swallow their souls and transform them into a demonic army of the walking dead! Who will survive the terror of Zombeak!?”
The film has already had a couple of screenings, and a blurb on the review page hails Zombeak as being “way better than The Gingerdead Man,” a comment that would make the average reader of this site respond with, “Well I’d damn well hope so.” Of course, then there’s me, the guy who is going to go to his grave with a scarlett “G” on his chest for having given The Gingerdead Man a rave review.
No word yet as to when the rest of the world will get to experience the low rent strangeness of Zombeak, but hopefully it’ll be before I pass on and people can show up to kick my tombstone and yell, “Four knives, my ass!”
Wonder if Foy will ever live down his love of horror & ginger in our forums!
