The Road Leads to a Trailer

The Road Leads to a TrailerAfter months of talking about it, the John Hillcoat-helmed The Road based on Cormac McCarthy’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel of the same name finally has a trailer.

The Road is the epic post-apocalyptic tale of a journey taken by a father (Mortensen) and his young son (newcomer Kodi Smit-McPhee) across a barren landscape that was blasted by an unnamed cataclysm that destroyed civilization and most life on earth.

The Road starring Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce, Robert Duvall, and Garret Dillahunt hits theatres on October 16th. Visit Yahoo! Movies to check out the trailer!

I don’t know… The trailer looks like it is emphasizing the wrong elements. What I enjoyed the most about the novel was the father/son relationship. The post-apocalypse stuff was the icing on the cake. I hope the movie doesn’t forget that.

But, to be fair, these trailers are put together by idiot ad people with no clue how to market a movie to its strengths, so I’ll reserve judgment until I see the final product.

I read an article (I don’t remember where, sadly) from someone who saw the movie, then saw them making the trailer, and said that the trailer is all fucked up and that the film follows the book much more closely, especially in terms of tone and pace, than the trailer would imply. He also said it was really good, so have hope for the final product
