Dave Parker's The Hills Run Red (click for larger image)In case you’re wondering why the news updates were so scarce here yesterday it was because we were in LA attending an industry screening for Dave Parker’s The Hills Run Red. We do get to leave the office every now and again, ya know. It happens. I swear. Anyway — wow, was this one worth the trip!

For those unfamiliar with the movie (and I can assure you, you won’t be for very long), let’s take a look at a quick plot crunch!

“Tyler (Tad Hilgenbrink), a film fanatic whose obsession with finding a complete print of an infamous slasher movie leads him and two friends into the backwoods where the film was shot. They realize too late that filming never ended—and now they must survive a nightmarish onslaught or become part of the movie forever.”

Yes, the storyline is a little on the familiar side, but then again what slasher film isn’t? There’s a specific formula for this type of movie that must be adhered to. It has to be violent, it has to have nudity, and it has to be fun. The Hills Run Red delivers on all counts with a heavy layer of sick spread on thick for good measure.

Plenty of horror movies claim to be the next big thing. Most fail, some come close, and a scant few rise to the challenge. The Hills Run Red is one of those films that meets high expectations effortlessly. It’s just that damned good.

This isn’t lighthearted slasher fare that you’ll forget ten minutes after watching it. There are no dumb distracting jokes spewed by people you just want to see perish. You’ll care about the characters, you’ll dig on the film’s very smart, dark, and never distracting sense of humor, and the kills will keep your grinning from ear to ear. This is a hardcore lesson in sheer relentless terror with a final act so crazed you’ll be left breathless, white-knuckled, and gasping.

And what would a slasher movie be without a memorable villain? The killer known only as Babyface? I can promise you he will get under your skin. You will be seeing him long after the credits roll in every dark corner of your house and down every ill lit street in your neighborhood. With The Hills Run Red Dave Parker has brought to life what — mark my words — could very well be one of the single scariest looking onscreen murderers we’ll ever see and fear.

Though the film won’t be coming out until the Halloween season, it’s nearly impossible for us to stay quiet about this one. You have to know. You have to prepare. Amidst all the bullshit remakes and sequels that are crowding our genre, something truly evil, fun, disturbing, and deliciously depraved is headed your way. Thank god for filmmakers like Dave Parker. He’s someone that truly gets horror and isn’t afraid to celebrate it and give it right back.

Look for more on The Hills Run Red soon.
