What do you get when you cross Assault on Precinct 13 with a Bigfoot movie? Something that might look a little like Sasquatch Assault. The first trailer for this action-packed piece of Sasquatchploitation has arrived, and it looks positively tremendous.
“When a merciless bear poacher is caught and arrested deep in the woods of a state park, he and his truck are taken to a neglected precinct in the heart of a dying city. Unbeknownst to the authorities, the impounded truck holds a deadly cargo in the form of the legendary Sasquatch. Now, stuck in an unfamiliar world, the creature will let nothing and no one stop it from coming face-to-face with the unscrupulous man who ruthlessly ripped it from its environment. Taking an inventive and action packed approach, “Sasquatch Assault” breaths new and exciting life into the immortal legend of Bigfoot.”
Fangoria scored the exclusive first trailer for Sasquatch Assault from the fine folks at Synthetic Cinema International, and their opus looks to be shaping up to be the most entertaining rampaging Bigfoot flick since Abominable. If there is anything negative for me to say, it would be that there might be a risk of it getting a little too stupid for its own good, which was a major problem I had with Synthetic’s previous creature feature Werewolf: The Devil’s Hound (review). That and for some reason their Bigfoot reminds in some ways of “Sweetums” from the Muppets.
Regardless, this is a good trailer, and I have my fingers crossed that it delivers. Give the trailer a look. It’s definitely worth your time.
Synthetic Cinema producer and Sasquatch Assault director Andrew Gernhard also told Fango of two more monster movies in the works they intend to co-produce with India’s Vijaya Cine.
The first will be Opponent, an “insane, bizarre, and violent” tale of a heavily armed alien that lands in a junkyard, leading the owner to offer a $100,000 bounty to whoever can kill it and ends up getting more than she bargained for when every wacko with a weapon shows up to collect.
Director and digital FX artist Colin Theys, who helmed Synthetic’s other yet-to-be-released monster movie, Banshee!!!, told Fango to look at it as a reversal on the standard kids trapped in a cabin with a monster trying to get them. “What if the monster is trapped in the cabin and the kids are trying to get to it?” Theys goes on to promise extreme mayhem of near Troma-esque proportions. “It’s going to have an infectious energy that’ll keep audiences shouting ‘What?!!’ at the TV with every twist and turn. Ever seen a mechanical shark that swims under the sand? A machine-gun-wielding zombie priest? Or how about an entire junior karate class attacking an 8-foot tall alien?”
Less over-the-top will be Werewolf: Curse of the Jersey Devil, described as a “Buffy-esque” college-based creature feature that pits vampire and lycanthrope siblings against a girl who is actually the legendary Jersey Devil.
Something tells me we’re going to be hearing a lot more about Synthetic Cinema International productions in the future. And maybe the next time someone involved with one of their productions sends me an email, my responses to their mailbox won’t bounce.
