Hansel and Gretel – Witch Hunters?

Hansel and Gretel - Witch Hunters?Tommy Wirkola is done with Nazi-zombies. At least for the time being. Even though his last movie, Dead Snow (review), was a hit with most fans, the young filmmaker has decided to go for a less absurd subject for his next film – Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters!

The Hollywood Reporter learned tonight that Wirkola is prepping a film that will focus on how things worked out for the famous siblings fifteen years after that whole bit of nasty witch trying to eat them stuff.

Wirkola is currently hard at work on an outline for the producers at the Paramount-based Gary Sanchez Productions (run by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay). Even at this super-early stage Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is being groomed as a potential franchise and is said to have a Shaun of the Dead and Evil Dead 2 type vibe.

Dead Snow will be released here in the States by IFC on June 12th.

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never, ever choose to be.

I like the premise. Hansel and Gretel kicking ass.

  • The Woman In Black

I’m pretty interested in this one also. There just aren’t enough good witch movies as far as I’m concerned.

You’re right. Not a lot of wicked witch movies out there is there? Plus I’m hopeful they set it in a historical, or even fantasy historical, place.

But I put this in the same category of Abe Lincoln v Vampires and stuff like that. A cute little interesting idea but can that be expanded upon to make a feature? If all the movie ends up being is one joke (and a self-referencial joke at that) or a single concept drug out for 90 minutes it will probably be pretty tedious.

Which is what most of this slew of zombie films sound like…

This could be awesome- more than willing to give this one a shot.
