One of the biggest debut novels of the summer is Gary Whitta’s Abomination, and courtesy of Inkshares, we have the first two chapters excerpted right here to whet your appetites for this Kickstarter success story about a medieval knight battling an “unspeakable horror.”

Whitta is an award-winning screenwriter best known for the post-apocalyptic thriller The Book of Eli, starring Denzel Washington. He was also a writer and story consultant on Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead, for which he was the co-recipient of a BAFTA award. Most recently he served as screenwriter for the upcoming standalone Star Wars movie Rogue One, now in pre-production.

Abomination, on sale July 29th, is part historical fantasy and part horror novel; and when Whitta decided to crowdfund his first novel to connect directly with his fans, he hit his $16K funding goal in 20 hours.
