James Marsdem Signs Up for Straw Dogs ReduxThere’s no doubt Sam Peckinpah’s 1971 film Straw Dogs, which was based upon the book The Siege at Trencher’s Farm by Gordon Williams, is widely regarded as an absolute classic. And like all classics, we knew that sooner or later someone would get the bug up his ass to remake it. So now it’s out with the Hoffman and in with the Cyclops.

According to The Hollywood Reporter James Marsden of X-Men fame has signed on for the lead role in Rod Lurie’s redux of Straw Dogs for Screen Gems.

This latest telling follows Los Angeles screenwriter David Sumner (Marsden), who moves with his wife to her hometown in the Deep South. Once there, tensions build in their marriage and old conflicts re-emerge with the locals, leading to a violent confrontation.

Cameras roll in August.
