#SDCC15: Crimson Peak Defies Expectations of Female Characters in Horror Says Guillermo del Toro

Horror movies are known for often depicting women as damsels in distress, so to speak, but those hungry for more empowered female characters will be happy to learn that this year’s Crimson Peak is looking to put a check into that particular box. Read on.
Per Entertainment Weekly, Guillermo del Toro spoke about Crimson Peak at Legendary’s Comic-Con panel today, indicating that his two strong daughters inspired him to infuse those strengths into the film’s lead character.
“It’s a straight Gothic romance, where certain twists are a little more gender liberating,” del Toro noted, much to the delight of many in the crowd.
Crimson Peak haunts theaters October 16th.
Legendary Pictures’ Crimson Peak, a co-production with Universal Pictures, is a haunting Gothic horror story directed by the master of dark fairy tales, Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy series, Pacific Rim), written by del Toro and Matthew Robbins, and starring Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Hunnam, and Jim Beaver.
