UPDATED: Jackie Earle Haley IS the New Freddy!

One name that keeps being mentioned as a possible Freddy Krueger in the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street reboot is Jackie Earle Haley, and it’s starting to look more and more like the role is his if rumors swirling around today on the Net can be believed.
Bloody Disgusting claims that Haley is now in “final talks” with the powers-that-be and we can “expect an official announcement as early as next week.” He definitely made one helluva Rorschach, and anyone who caught him as sex offender Ronnie McGorvey in Todd Fields’ Little Children knows he can play someone who’s creepy yet oddly sympathetic, which would seem to fit this new version of Freddy to a “t”.
In a related story, BD has Kyle Gallner (The Haunting In Connecticut) in final talks as well to play “Quentin, the podcast host and Johnny Depp character.”
Guess we’ll find out soon if director Samuel Bayer and the rest of the Platinum Dunes folks agree with these reports.
UPDATE: And it’s confirmed – THR’s Risky Biz Blog states “Nightmare has its new Freddy.” Let the hoorays commence!
