Ron Howard Behind Latest Lovecraft Adaptation?

Hell, if you would have told me 30 years ago that the kid who played Richie Cunningham on “Happy Days” would grow up to be one of the most influential and important directors of our time, I’d have called you crazy. Yet, that’s exactly what happened with Ron Howard, and now lucky for us horror geeks he could be ready to tackle some tentacle-laden goodness!
Variety reports tonight that Universal and Imagine Entertainment are getting ready to turn The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft into a major motion picture. The studio has bought the film rights to the Image Comics graphic novel, and the project is a potential directing vehicle for Ron Howard. Look for the book to be in stores on April 8th, 2009.
The novel, created by Mac Carter and Jeff Blitz, “borrows elements from Lovecraft’s life, such as his family’s struggle with mental illness and his own bouts with writer’s block, and transforms the young writer’s darkest nightmares into reality when he comes across a book that puts a curse on him and lets the evils he conjures up loose on the world“.
Carter, a commercial director, will pen the script and serve as executive producer alongside Blitz. Look for more soon as we’re pretty sure this baby is heading for the fast track.
