No Scream 5 Headed Our Way; Film Franchise Is Dead

Late last year Harvey Weinstein indicated the Scream franchise would receive its final installment in the form of Scream 5, teasing that some major characters would find their heads on the chopping block. Alas, it looks like any and all plans have been completely scrapped.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Harvey’s brother, Bob Weinstein, shot down rumors of a Scream 5, bluntly stating that the film franchise is essentially dead. Now that MTV is rebooting the series for the small screen, he says there’s just no reason to head back to the big one.

It’s like putting an art-house movie in an art-house theater—where the teens reside is MTV,” noted Weinstein, likely referencing the fact that 2011’s Scream 4 underperformed at the box office.

Of course, we’ve learned to never say never in the world of horror. If MTV’s series doesn’t do well, I’m thinking a Scream 5, or perhaps even a total reboot, will once again rear its head.
