Behind every great horror film is a fantastic score. Although some people may not realize it, the music that accompanies their favorite genre flicks is instrumental in generating mood, atmosphere, and tension. For this horror geek, a great score is just as essential as solid direction and strong performances. Without it, you’re missing a significant piece of the cinematic puzzle.

Those who love the music that accompanies their favorite horror movies — or movie scores in general — should definitely pay attention to BMI’s “The Character of Music” panel at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con. To celebrate their fifth year at the annual event, BMI have assembled a number of legendary composers who have contributed to the world of horror.

Included among the scheduled guests are Richard Band (Re-Animator), Harry Manfredini (Friday the 13th), Laura Karpman (Carrie), and Tyler Bates (Dawn of the Dead). Given the amount of talent slated to attend, it should make for a lively and interesting conversation.
