Meg Movie Movement

They'd better hurry; Meg's getting hungry! All you giant shark fans out there who were hoping that 2007 would be the year of Meg had better sit down; it’s now looking like the film won’t be out until 2008 at the earliest. I’m sorry to give out such sour news when you’re likely still dealing with a hangover, but to be fair I’m just conveying the news from Variety, so blame them.

The good news is that Speed 2 helmer Jan de Bont is still attached (there’s a relief!) and that the project was never actually deep-sixed like some had theorized. New Line just backed off a bit when the estimated budget came in around $150 million, an insane number for a giant shark movie no matter whom you’re talking to.

They’re hoping to start shooting Meg this spring for a summer ’08 release, which I’m sure will be upon us before we know it. Fans of the book series will be happy to know that creator Steve Alten is working on Meg 4: Hell’s Aquarium but won’t release it until the film is moving along. “I need the movie to generate publicity for that book,” Alten told the trade.

A better subtitle might not hurt either.
