Gans Headed Back to the Hill

Christophe Gans wantches in horror...By now I’m sure you’ve seen it all over the place, but just in case…

A French site called DVD Rama just sat down with Christophe Gans to celebrate the release of Silent Hill on DVD in the director’s home country. Of course the conversation consisted of lots of stories of what a pain in the ass it was to make such a visually interesting and horrific story into a major motion picture in Hollywood. Gans recounts such anecdotes as how the Sean Bean character, who most agree was totally useless to the overall film, was only supposed to be in the very beginning and end of the movie but the studio was afraid of having a horror film with a female lead. Aren’t we just so open-minded here in the States?

Gans also made mention that, as soon as he finishes work on Driver, Roger Avary will be back with Gans to work on Silent Hill 2. Too good to be true? Hill was actually one of the most successful horror films of last year, coming in behind Saw III and An American Haunting in terms of coin made at the box office, so of course Sony’s going to want another. I only hope Gans gets the wish he mentions in the interview if he does direct: to fix the mistakes he made during the first film.

Click here to check out the entire interview, which is all in French but I’m sure you can find a way to get it translated, right? That’s what the internet is for, isn’t it?
