Barker Praises New Hellraiser Helmer

Tunnicliffe's Pinhead designI remember when the gents behind “>Inside (review) were attached to the “>Hellraiser remake, Clive Barker had a lot of overwhelmingly positive things to say about the duo. Then they were removed from the project, and the world got a little less cool.

That is, until “>Martyrs helmer Pascal Laugier was announced as taking the directorial reigns on Hellraiser. Good news, indeed, and Barker seems just as happy with this directorial choice: “I fuckin’ love Martyrs! I’m a glutton for intensity, extreme stuff. Martyrs is certainly extreme, it’s a movie that has courage and commitment,” Barker told STYD in a recent interview. ”[Pascal] is someone who really, really cares about horror movies. I’m supposed to be seeing a treatment soon. I’m not certain, but I believe he is going back to the first movie but not with an obsessed loyalty. He’s taking the first movie as a launching board, a rock model, but there are things you can obviously do now both visually and sexually. It was always a sexual movie.

Barker also had some comments on Gary Tunnicliffe’s Pinhead reimagining (pictured), which surfaced online a few days ago. Hit the link over to STYD to read those, and keep it here for more news on the new Hellraiser!

Barker praises Indian Deli down the street. Tandori chicken top-notch and Nan bread always fresh baked. Barker goes on to say that although he regrets his recent decision to part ways with his dry-cleaner he feels it was for the best. Public grateful for first relevant comments from Barker in 15 years.

Barker praised the INSIDE guys as well, though, and we all know what happoened to them in regards to this remake. It seems to me as if Barker has little to no say in the decision process, which is a shame. He got screwed as a director and now that he’s moved on to being merely a producer he still keeps getting screwed.

Y’know, I was thinking about this a while ago…although I haven’t seen Martyrs, from what I’ve read, I think Pascal would be more suitable for Hellraiser than the Inside duo. I think the latter would have been much better suited for a Halloween film instead, which is why I’m disappointed that they got taken off the Halloween sequel.
