Mum & Dad
You know, several times a day we think about how cool it would be to open up shop across the pond so that we could easily be there for all of the great shit they have going on. Film4 Frightfest, great Blu-ray editions we get the shaft on here, the seductive usage of the word "randy" ... so very much to love.
There are a lot of unknowns in this week's release list, but a few seem to hold promise -- most notably Mum and Dad and Just Another Love Story. And for the completists in the crowd, there's yet another way to get your hands on some Twilight memorabilia including a watch, bracelet, and jewelry box.
There's a healthy amount of buzz surrounding the May 5th, 2009 DVD release of the UK import Mum & Dad, and like all cool things that you should know about and have, we're giving away a few copies!
Today the folks at Revolver Entertainment released the first look at the cover art for their May 5th 2009 release of the UK import Mum & Dad, which you can see below. So far this is the only detail on the US release of the film; mum's the word on any extras or special features that might be included.
According to Variety, Slamdance has chosen Glenn McQuaid’s I Sell the Dead to kick off this year's festival, which runs in Park City, Utah, January 15-23, 2009.
Horror may currently be in a slump, but the 2008 American Film Market has shown a huge light at the end of the tunnel. This year showcased a record number of horror titles and Dread Central was on hand to catch a great deal of them. Some were good, some were bad but all showed that this genre still has plenty of lifeblood left. Many exhibitors were also kind enough to show us movie promos, while others coldly showed us the door (Lesbian Vampire Killers, I’m looking at you).
The whole "day-and-date" concept has always sounded a bit strange to me, to be honest. Releasing a film in theaters, on DVD, and on VOD the same day doesn’t really make a lot of sense, does it? Where’s the motivation to get butts in seats if they can just head to Best Buy and enjoy the film in the privacy of their homes? Though I guess if it’ll work anywhere, it’ll work in horror.

Plot Synopsis:
Mum and Dad, and their "adopted" children, Birdie & Elbie, work at the airport. The family live off whatever they scavenge from cargo holds, offices and hotels - including a steady stream of transient workers who populate the airport's soulless hub. When Lena, a young Polish office cleaner, is befriended by Birdie, she gets drawn into a nightmarish world of torture, murder and perversity. Imprisoned in a suburban House of Horrors and designated a "Mummy's Girl", Lena's only options appear to be to become part of the family - and join them in their insanity - or die.
