Morgan Creek Promises the New EXORCIST Sequel is “In Good Hands” with David Gordon Green Directing

In a lengthy spotlight on Morgan Creek published by Park Circus, the storied movie studio assures horror fans that they are taking their upcoming sequel to The Exorcist very seriously while also expressing confidence in the film’s chosen director, David Gordon Green (Halloween, Halloween Kills, Halloween Ends).
“We are really looking forward to nurturing The Exorcist franchise with Blumhouse It’s a franchise that we are honored to steward. Having the visionary David Gordon Green onboard to direct ensures it’s in good hands.”
Past sequels to The Exorcist (1973) have landed on opposite sides of the critical spectrum. Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977) was universally panned while The Exorcist III (1990) is considered near-equal to the original with a rabid cult following. Most horror fans loved the 2-season TV series adaptation helmed by Jeremy Slater, which was revealed to be a direct sequel to the original Exorcist.

Synopsis:
One of the most profitable horror movies ever made, this tale of an exorcism is based loosely on actual events. When young Regan (Linda Blair) starts acting odd — levitating, speaking in tongues — her worried mother (Ellen Burstyn) seeks medical help, only to hit a dead end. A local priest (Jason Miller), however, thinks the girl may be seized by the devil. The priest makes a request to perform an exorcism, and the church sends in an expert (Max von Sydow) to help with the difficult job.
The Exorcist was directed by William Friedkin from a script penned by William Peter Blatty; Blatty also wrote the novel that the film is based on.
