Ever since David O. Russell exited the big screen version of Seth Grahame-Smith’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies early last month, lots of names have been bandied about as his replacement. It looks like finally one of them has risen to the top as we learned today that Lionsgate has made a formal offer to Mike White to direct the film.

According to Deadline New York White, who scripted School of Rock and made his feature directing debut on Year of the Dog, is the studio’s pick to helm the adaptation, which spices up Jane Austen’s time-tested novel with a smattering of flesh-eating walking corpses.

Deadline’s story also mentions the idea of having Scarlett Johansson and Bradley Cooper play the leads. Natalie Portman is apparently still attached as one of the film’s producers but has opted out of starring so who knows what will happen? Keep it here for more as it comes.
