Martyrs
We’re a funny bunch, us horror fans. Of all the emotions we experience watching our beloved freak shows, sadness usually ain’t one of ‘em. It’s hard to want to hug someone when they’re spitting up stage blood all over your screen, but every so often genuine empathy can be aroused in our hardened hearts for certain cinematic victims.
Our blood has officially just run cold. Ice cold. Hollywood has been talking about a remake of the French horror phenomenon known as Martyrs for a long time now, and while the prospect of it happening is chilling in and of itself, some recent chatter has proved to be the most horrifying news yet!
Fans of French horror have a few nights in the theater organized just for them in San Antonio, Texas. The Alamo Drafthouse has grouped up Frontiers, Inside, and Martyrs for your gory pleasures, and each is showing for two different nights down in the Lone Star State!
If ever there was a week that offered a little something for everyone, this is it! From a giallo to Albert Fish to gorgeous French torture to psychos, sluts, and a she-beast, the week of April 28th has it all. Throw in Ron Jeremy's cock on a rampage, and really, what more could you ask for?

A new poster for the critically acclaimed Martyrs debuted online today that actually shows off some of that acclaim. Look closely, and you might even see a site or two you're familiar with!
"It’s a good time to be me,” Pascal Laugier jokingly told the folks at Fangoria recently during an in-depth interview. The French director of Martyrs touched upon all his upcoming projects, and we've got the highlights for you.
Trade magazine Production Weekly has reported that Pascal Laugier is considering signing up to direct a mad canine thriller aptly dubbed Dogs.
Genius Products released the cover art for the hugely controversial and highly acclaimed French film Martyrs today. but the release date seems to be a little bit unclear at this point.
I guess the first bit of news that should be mentioned from AICN’s interview with Martyrs director Pascal Laugier is that an American remake of Martyrs is already in the works. It is, of course, not surprising in the least considering how well received the film has been since its festival debut, but it's a little disappointing nonetheless.
Well, you won’t have to wait too much longer to find out if Pascal Laugier is the right choice for the remake of Hellraiser; the boys at Quiet Earth got word today that Martyrs is headed for DVD on February 24th, 2009!
Well, it’s official; Martyrs helmer Pascal Laugier is in negotiations with Bob & Harvey Weinstein to write and direct the remake of Hellraiser, which you should recall was once in the hands of the French duo behind Inside before their take on the material proved too freaky.
The Weinsteins can’t seem to make up their mind as to who should be at the helm of their ill-conceived Hellraiser remake, having cycled through both the team who made Feast and the team who made Inside, but at least they seem to have settled on using a French director.
