You can't say we didn't warn you there'd be some more distribution news coming out of the Cannes Film Festival. The latest tidbit is that Magnet Releasing (the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures) has picked up US rights and Mongrel Media has acquired Canada from XYZ Pictures to Panos Cosmatos’ sci-fi thriller Beyond the Black Rainbow.
Here at Dread Central we love anthologies, and this bit of news that just came across the wire sounds like we are in for the anthology to end all anthologies as Drafthouse Films, Timpson Films, and Magnet Releasing are teaming to produce The ABCs of Death, a 26-chapter film that 25 established horror directors -- plus a contest winner -- will direct.
Magnet Releasing is quickly becoming this writer’s favorite distribution house. In the last year, they’ve put out some of the most compelling genre films including Monsters, Black Death, I Saw the Devil, Rubber, and Hobo with a Shotgun. Their latest release, Troll Hunter, is just as remarkable a film as the company it’s keeping.
It’s no secret that the story behind Hobo with a Shotgun’s four year journey to the big screen has been a remarkable one.
We are completely convinced that it is impossible for something having to do with Troll Hunter to not kick a copious amount of ass. Case in point: this new comic inspired piece of artwork that we fully expect to become wallpaper everywhere.

I don't think it's possible for anyone to want an actual good Godzilla flick more than we do here at Dread Central. Big G is close to all of our hearts and when news broke that another American one was on the way our hopes kind of sunk weighed down by memories of giant iguana chickens and bad New York accents.
